Object (thorn)

The sculpture draws inspiration from the aesthetics of tribal tattooing, translating its characteristic sharp lines, pointed extensions, and dynamic forms from the surface of the body into three-dimensional space. Cut from steel, the composition evokes a thorn-covered biological structure, a defensive mechanism, and an abstract ornament.
The work explores biomimicry through its references to protective structures found in nature, such as thorns, spines, and other organic adaptations developed for survival. These biological strategies intersect with the visual language of tribal tattoos, where ornamentation becomes a means of expressing identity, strength, and belonging. What originally resembles a two-dimensional pattern acquires physical presence, weight, and potentially threatening edges. The contrast between the precision of industrial CNC cutting and the organic character of the form blurs the boundaries between nature and technology, decoration and defence. The sculpture balances visual attraction with a sense of danger, reflecting on how forms associated with beauty and ornament can simultaneously suggest aggression, vulnerability, and the instinct for self-preservation.
