“Mosou Black” is, according to its Japanese manufacturer, the world champion of acrylic black paints. It absorbs 98.8% of light and is currently the blackest paint commercially available. Developed by scientists and previously used in space, this shade is said to be able to turn any three-dimensional surface into a black hole. I used Mosou Black to materialize a force of destruction – but also, paradoxically, to mark the presence of life that continues to evolve around it.

I cannot comprehend what infinity is. Yet within this dark, consuming chaos, I find a kind of new beginning. It’s surprising how life manages to adapt to even the worst conditions – even in the shadow of inevitable annihilation. Chaos always gives birth to new forms.
